DEFEAT TO WHITBY

A Tony Hackworth double sinks Bucks at the Silverlands on Saturday afternoon.

Whitby rolled into Town on a run of good form this afternoon under the astute leadership of Harry Dunn, the ex-manager of Blyth Spartans and he will have been proud of the display of the Seasiders. Buxton manager John Reed made one change from the team that beat Frickley last Tuesday with Kieran Lugsden earning a starting place at the expense of Joe Wilcox with Scott Maxfield reverting to left back. There was also a place on the bench for loan signing Oscar Short following his move from Ilkeston Town.

The Buxton groundstaff deserved a huge pat on the back for getting the pitch ready following some testing weather conditions this week and it was the visitors that played the better football early on in the match but chances were at a premium. Cayne Hanley’s pace looked to be Buxton’s best chance of unlocking the visitors but the experience of Andy Campbell and Tony Hackworth for Whitby was telling and it was no surprise when the ex-Leeds attacking midfielder, Hackworth, opened the scoring right on half time.

After the break Buxton came more into the match and unfortunately Mark Reed was having a day to forget as two good chances went begging and on 70 minutes Hackworth doubled the advantage, lifting the ball over Hartley with the help of a deflection from Tommy Agus. New signing Oscar Short came off the bench and was unlucky not to score with a turn and shot that was well blocked.

The Bucks continue their run of home matches on Wednesday with the visit of Ossett Town before Saturday’s clash with Guiseley, also at the Silverlands.
