Marine 1 - 1 Buxton FC

18 August 2009       Attendance: 305

BUXTON snatched a dramatic late equaliser to earn their second draw in four days at the start of a new UniBond Premier League campaign.

With time running out at the Arriva Stadium on Tuesday night a deep cross in the 88th minute was met by Kieran Lugsden who bundled the ball home from close range.

The Bucks — who themselves conceded a late equaliser on Saturday against Bradford PA — had started the game strongly and Gavin Knight saw a head from a Michael Towey cross deflected onto a post.

At the other end Scott Hartley saved from Peter Cumiskey after good work by Neil Black on the left.

Marine took the lead in the 34 minute from a free kick — Neil Prince delivering for Michael Jackson to head home at the far post, his first goal for the club.

Buxton had strong claims for a penalty turned down just seconds later.

Hartley made another good stop for the Bucks early in the second half — keeping out an effort by Neil Black.

The Bucks keeper, however, got into trouble when spilling a cross. Luckily McMahon's shot hit the bar.

Marine pressed forard time and again and Hartley was called on to make a great save from Prince.

With it looking as if the home side were set to clinch all three points, up popped Lugsden to snatch the all important leveller for the Bucks and send their fans home happier.
