Buxton FC 0 - 2 Whitby Town

13 February 2010       Attendance: 339

VISITING captain Tony Hackworth scored twice as an organised Whitby Town side took the points after a disappointing day at the office for Buxton.

Despite having only one change to the team who completed that remarkable turnaround against Frickley Athletic in midweek, the home side struggled to make an impact in the opening exchanges though they did come more into the match as it progressed.

Clear cut chances were few and far between for both sides but the visitors were certainly the most clinical when opportunities were created.

Mark Reed found Cayne Hanley with a great pass on 18 minutes but the shot was bravely stopped by visiting keeper David Campbell.

The onrushing Hanley had no time to take evasive action and his boot unfortunately caught Campbell in the face, earning Hanley a yellow card.

A speculative long range shot from Whitby went wide on 28 minutes before a Mark Reed cross into the box was parried by Campbell two minutes later.

Neil Stevens' well-struck shot was stopped from going into the top corner by Campbell on 34 minutes as Buxton's best effort of the first period went unrewarded.

Then, on the stroke of half time, Whitby went ahead, Hackworth turning well in the area to fire past Scott Hartley.

The second period started in much the same vein with a Hackworth shot forcing Hartley to tip the ball past the post on 47 minutes.

Reed shot straight at Campbell on 58 minutes before trying to curl a ball round the keeper a few minutes later only to slightly miss-hit his shot and see it go wide.

The visitors' second goal arrived shortly after, on 70 minutes.

Hackworth again got his name on the score sheet, beating Hartley for a second time, with the ball taking a deflection off Tommy Agus on its way into the net.

John Reed tried to revitalise his team by introducing three sets of fresh legs, but it was too late for the Bucks who just couldn't find a way back.
