DEBUTANT Lee Morris opened the scoring as a determined Buxton side beat high-fliers Guiseley on Saturday.
Morris, signed from Frickley Athletic last week, took just 13 minutes to open his Buxton account as the home side proved too strong for their fifth-placed opponents.
The introduction of Morris gave manager John Reed new options, and his experiment with an attacking 4-3-3 formation clearly paid off.
Despite the hard work of an army of volunteers, there was still some snow on the pitch though both sides adapted well to the difficult conditions and the game didn't suffer as a result.
Buxton fared better in the opening exchanges but didn't get the breakthrough until Morris found the back of the net, after turning and firing a Tommy Agus free kick past visiting keeper Jon Worsnop.
On 24 minutes, Mark Reed beat Worsnop after a great through ball from Michael Towey but was thwarted by an alert Guiseley player, before a free kick for the visitors a few minutes later was cleared comfortably by Buxton.
Guiseley had earlier hit the post but Morris' goal ensured the half ended with Buxton on top.
Shortly after the restart, Scott Hartley punched a Steve Burton free kick away, before the visitors did manage to level things on 53 minutes.
Buxton responded immediately with a forward run by Reed but he was brought down by Worsnop and claims for a penalty were denied by referee Mark Ackerman.
A few minutes later, though, and Buxton were awarded a penalty, this time after Towey was brought down.
Reed made no mistake from the spot as Buxton deservedly re-took the lead.
Scott Hartley saved well on 70 minutes but Guiseley couldn't find a way back in to the game and substitute Kieran Lugsden wrapped up the victory for Buxton in injury time with a well-taken goal.
This victory over a team chasing promotion gives Buxton a massive confidence boost as they themselves look to sneak into the play-offs.
