Buxton FC 2 - 2 Marine

02 March 2010       Attendance: 236

GOALS from Mark Reed and Lee Morris weren't enough to seal a third consecutive victory for Buxton when they entertained Marine on Tuesday night.

Buxton twice went ahead, thanks to Reed's 150th goal for the club and Morris' third goal in three games, but they just couldn't hold on to their lead.

The home side were by far the better team in the opening exchanges and were ahead with just six minutes played.

Morris had the initial opportunity but couldn't convert and when the ball rebounded to him, his cross found Reed who coolly fired past keeper Tim Dittmer to notch up his landmark goal.

Kieran Lugsden then went close with a header before Buxton seemed to lose the plot somewhat, giving the Merseysiders the chance to come back into the game.

Indeed, with less than 20 minutes on the clock, the Mariners were level. Peter Cumiskey was on hand to profit after a goalmouth scramble.

Morris had a great opportunity to put his side ahead just after the half hour mark but had to watch in despair as his effort crept across the face of the net, the first of two such chances throughout the evening.

In first half injury time, a Reed shot was spilled by Dittmer but the home side were unable to make the most of his mistake.

The first opportunities of the second half fell to Buxton and Grant Black with two efforts from distance, both of which were denied by Dittmer tipping the ball on to the woodwork.

Morris did see the reward for his efforts with just over an hour gone though, when he found the back of the net with a rebound shot after hitting the post a few seconds earlier.

Five minutes later, Morris again came close with a great effort but found only the side netting.

As the game drew to a close, the visitors again got themselves back on level terms.

Joe Fowler picked up a little flick on from his teammate, beat Buxton's defence and then fired past keeper Scott Hartley to equalise with 77 minutes gone.

From then on the game could have gone either way as both sides searched for a winner but no-one was able to break the deadlock.
