BATTLING BUCKS EARN VALUABLE WIN

Hosts Chester showed determination to continue their advancement in a play-off spot, Tuesday October 22, but they faced a battling Buxton side with resolve to end a slide down the Vanarama National League North table. It was the Bucks who triumphed in a tight game, thanks to a single goal coming from a powerful shot by Ethan Fitzhugh after 14 minutes.

With two changes to the starting line-up, involving the return of Callum Leigh and Fitzhugh, the Bucks looked more positive in the final third than in recent games. Cian Coleman, Josh Popoola and Fitzhugh again went close to extending the lead.

Chester dominated possession but Bucks' goalkeeper True Grant met each of their shots on target with a fine display and was helped by a post as they missed a late penalty. Defending resolutely, John McGrath's side held on to their 1-0 lead. Match Report HERE

"The last three or four games we've had mote possession but tonight we changed our set-up. It meant less of the ball, but we did more with it. The lads did everything I asked and three points are three points," John McGrath said afterwards.

"Young Ethan Fitzhugh answered the call so very well. Connor Kirby, on for the last quarter hour in his return from injury was fantastic, True Grant has a massive future and showed his brilliance. But this was an all-around effort. This squad loves winning football matches and gave everything. Now we want to be all guns blazing against Needham Market.

The match against Needham at the Tarmac Silverlands on Saturday kicks off at 3pm.
