First half goals by Warren Clarke and Diego De Girolamo, followed by a late headed strike by Tommy Elliott, gave Buxton deserved victory over Witton Albion last night (March 8), final score 3-1. The three points took the Bucks back to the top of the Pitching In Premier League table.
Scorer Warren Clarke had an outstanding match and said afterwards: "It was good to get another goal. I'd like to do that in every match. When Witton pulled one back there was no sign of us wilting, although they pushed hard for a while, It just made us more determined. That's the way we are nowadays, We're together as a team." The crowd of 475 was an excellent turn-out on a cold March night for the visit of one of the league's strugglers. Prior to the start, there was a minute's applause to show support for the people of Ukraine.
Across Derbyshire at Matlock, the Gladiators could only draw 1-1 with Ashton United and fell three points behind the Bucks, but with a game hand. South Shields are two points off the top and have also played one game less than new leaders Buxton.
Next for the Bucks is a Tarmac Silverlands Stadium home game against mid-table Radcliffe, kick-off 3pm.
