Buxton lost their penalty shoot out 3-4 in the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final against neighbours Alfreton Town, Tuesday April 15 at Chesterfield, attendance 1,165. Alfreton boss Billy Heath lifted the prize trophy for the third time, having succeeded in 2016 and 2019. The Bucks had been looking to make it a hat-trick of wins.
It was a changed but strong Buxton team for the final: Cooper in goal, Lusala, Mann, Faulkner, Kirby (captain), Brennan, Sault, Coleman, Martin, Popoola and Viggars. They were in for a hard-working 90-plus minutes in an encounter, although dominated by Buxton possession, that was always close-run, with few chances at either end with the Bucks the more dangerous of the two. Team manager John McGrath shared the let-down. He said: "That was not a great game of football. Chances were at a premium. They came into it more in the second half and pushed us. But it was a tough way to miss out, on penalties. It's a lottery and we lost.
"Next, a massive Good Friday game against Chorley, hopefully with us back to winning ways against a really strong outfit."
