Buxton FC, champions of the Pitching In Northern Premier League and on their way to the National League North for the first time, failed to add to a 15-matches unbeaten run in the campaign's final fixture, but that could not tarnish any of the shine covering the club's record-breaking season.
The Stalybridge 1 Buxton 0 scoreline was disappointing considering the Bucks' dominance for much of the game, but with only possible rivals South Shields – three points and an 11-goal difference behind – also losing 1-0 it was a day of victory. Full Match Report HERE
Celebrations were carried through to the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium on Saturday evening, with fans invited to join with players and management in a euphoric looking back at a superb season, involving not only promotion, but a best-ever FA Cup run. Fans have been "Our 12th man," according to team manager Steve Cunningham, "increasing in their numbers and intensity of support throughout the season. They played a huge part in our achievements."
Director David Brindley summed it up: "Thank you to everyone involved throughout our club, the players, management, fans and volunteers who have made this possible. What a season it's been. All Buxton, aren't we?"
