Buxton were on top form at Derby's Pride Park on Wednesday April 17th as they retained the Cawarden Derbyshire Senior Cup with a 5-0 victory over Unisport United Counties League side Heanor Town. The Bucks are county champions for the second year running.
It was a free-flowing display with the entertainment for the 1,459 crowd added to by hard-working opponents, but there was a clear gulf in class as the Bucks enjoyed 71% possession and created 19 chances, eight of those on target.
The season's top scorer Diego De Girolamo scored a fine goal in each half, Dylan Mottley-Henry was the second name on the scoresheet after 43 minutes, then substitute Max Brogan completed the evening with a brace of late second-half goals. Heanor had what would have been a consolation goal disallowed for a clear foul on goalkeeper Joe Young.
This was the 12th time the Bucks have won the Senior Cup, with the honour dating back to a first success in season 1938-39. Full Match Report HERE
Attention turns now to Saturday's final match of the Vanarama National League North campaign. The Bucks will travel to Farsley Celtic, kick-off 3pm, for what will be team manager Craig Elliott's last game in charge. Craig has decided to move on and the interviewing process for a replacement is underway. Admission at Farsley is via cash or card at the gate.
