BUXTON (0) 1 ASHTON UTD (0) 0 ATT 344

Buxton's 3rd pre-season friendly on Friday evening produced a lone-goal victory over NPL Premier opponents, who included as many as 4 ex-Silverlanders in their first-half team. (One of them, the newly-recruited Kurt Willoughby, missed his team's best chance in the first half by shooting over the bar from very close range). As previously, the hosts fielded virtually a different 11 in each half, but the contest as a spectacle lacked something of the sparkle of the recent 7-goals Silverlands outing. After a rather drab opening half in which Buxton, attacking the Railway End, fielded 3 trialists, the fare proved livelier after the interval as both sides forged openings. Buxton's trialist 'keeper was twice seriously troubled by crosses but his defenders cleared with difficulty. New signing, centre-back Finn Cousin-Dawson, a calm figure at the heart of defence, impressed with his accurate, long-range distribution. In this half, Dylan Mantle featured on the left flank and in the last minute he cut inside and, in the style of the departed Luke Brennan, unleashed a curling 25-yard drive that rebounded from the bar. By then 'the Bucks' had created the game's only goal as a trialist netted with a neat back-heel from 6 yards. Last season's midfielders, Ashton Mee and Will Trueman, contributed much to the half's improved home attacking. Additionally, newcomer Sisa Tuntulwana showed that he can add an extra dimension to the hosts' attacking with a controlled long throw to the middle of the penalty area.

Last Tuesday the Bucks lost 3-1 to FC Braga at St George's Park with Sisa Tuntulwana netting.

The next friendly sees very attractive opposition coming to the Tarmac Silverlands. National Leaguers Scunthorpe Utd will visit on Tuesday, July 21st, at 7-45 p.m.
