HOME RECORD GOES BUT BUCKS STAY TOP

Updated: Dec 23, 2021

Buxton FC lost their unbeaten home record on Saturday (December 18) but remain two points clear at the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League. Visitors FC United of Manchester ran out 2-1 winners.

Fog lifted for the 1,309 Tarmac Silverlands crowd to watch Dom Tear score in the 29th minute, after an incisive cross from Jamie Ward – and the Bucks took their lead into half time.

However, it was the Red Rebels who grew in confidence to dominate stetches of the second period, helped by the Bucks' early loss of defender Matt Curley through injury.

It was no surprise when the visitors took a 56th minute lead through Jones. Then, victory was assured 10 minutes from time when substitute Duckworth latched on to a through ball to score number two. Pressure from the Bucks promised a come-back, with Jason Gilchrist, making his first start, prominent in front of goal, but it needed an outstanding save from Theo Richardson towards the end to keep the score down to 2-1. The December 27th derby match at Matlock Town takes on added significance, with Buxton two points ahead of their local rivals. Both have played the same number of games.
