SIX POINTS FROM SIX

After dominating the first half Buxton, unchanged from last week, found it hard going against lively visitors Farsley Celtic on Saturday August 17th, but determination led to a 2-1 win, making it six points from six in the Vanarama National League North's new season.

Ben Sault opened the scoring for the Bucks in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a Farsley defender's slip and loss of the ball. Other chances, however, were missed and it remained 1-0 going into the break.

The second half saw a resurgent Farsley and it was 1-1 in the 76th minute, before Josh Popoola latched on to a Tommy Elliott goalwards header with six minutes of normal time remaining, restoring the home lead. The visitors pressed for a second equaliser right up to the final whistle, but resolute defending and more than one stroke of good fortune for the Bucks kept the scoreline at 2-1. Team manager John McGrath was delighted at his side making it two wins from two.  He said: "We had to ride our luck a bit in the second half but our young group of players found a way. The defence was really strong, dealing with every corner kick and long throw to get us over the line.

"I was really pleased with the first 45 minutes, now we must work on matching this kind of success in second halves as well.

"The noise from the Railway End was brilliant and the lads and staff really appreciate it. They love it. We're now six points from six and the next opportunity for progress is at home to Darlington on Tuesday."

The Tarmac Silverlands match against Darlington on Tuesday kicks off at 7.30pm.
